Local Government Leadership Program

Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP)

The Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP) is a multi-day leadership development program designed to help participants enhance their leadership knowledge and skills. The program brings together leaders from municipal and county governments across Tennessee to provide them with tools to help guide their cities and counties into the future.

LGLP provides elected and senior-level government officials an opportunity to explore ideas and strategies aimed at improving the delivery of government services to Tennesseans. This experience challenges local government leaders to fulfill their leadership roles more effectively. Throughout the program, participants hear from speakers and trainers outside of government, as well as share and learn from their peer leaders. Participants learn more about themselves, the challenges of leadership in a public sector environment, and the role of leaders in today’s communities.

Applicants are nominated by their peers, LGLP alumni, and the staff of the Institute for Public Service. Each class strives to reflect a mix of elected and appointed officials from cities and counties of all sizes across all three grand divisions of the state.

The 2022 LGLP program will be held August 29-31 in Nashville.
